Something Old...
One of the best known wedding traditions is
"Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed,
Something Blue, and a Sixpence for your Shoe".
Something old symbolizes a sense of
continuity, tradition and represents the link to the
bride's old life and her family. Something
new signifies hope for the future.
Something borrowed should come from a friend who
is happily married. Their happiness will wear
off on you. Something blue signifies
fidelity, purity and love. A sixpence in
your shoe is to ensure financial success in your
new life together.
To make this tradition more unique, you could make a
special handbag to carry some of the items. I
found this pattern in my travels and my
mother-in-law made it and included fabric from her
wedding dress as well as her mother's and mine.
