Unity Candle Ceremony
The Unity Candle is a ceremony symbolizes the
joining of two families into one. Your
officiant will guide you when it is appropriate to
perform this ritual. Usually the mother of the
bride lights one of the taper candles and the mother
of the groom lights the other. Then the bride
and groom take the two tapers and light the centre
candle together.
"From every human being
there rises a light that reaches straight to heaven.
And when two souls that are destined for each other
find one another, their streams of light flow
together and a single brighter light goes forth from
their united being."
--from "The New Jewish Wedding" by Anita Diamant
Unity Sand Ceremony

This is similar to the
Unity Candle Ceremony with no fire. Sometimes
facilities have restrictions on candles or you may
have some significance to sand. This is
particularly symbolic to couples that come from
separate coasts.
