About this
Website:
This website is a little different than the
average wedding directory. Our focus is the
Vancouver, Fraser Valley, Lower Mainland
of BC with only USEFUL
wedding resources. I've run this website
advertisement free for over 6 years
establishing relationships with local and
reliable wedding vendors, and building a
strong following of both local couples
planning their weddings and local vendors
that use the website often because they know
'Magna has that information on her
website'.
We have a unique policy on listing.
Reliable and unique vendors are always
welcome and although basic listing is
free it is not guaranteed. That’s
why I've added them personally. I
openly admit I'm often slow to add
listings...don't take it personally!
Now that the new website is published this site will retire once all the data is transferred.
The wedding venue is usually the first
vendor couples look for, so I've created a
simple way to highlight local venues.
It's great to see a photo of the venue, a
description, capacities, and contact
information to save time in the research
process. It's also broken down by
municipality so you can easily find a venue
close to your ceremony site and area of
preference. Again, make it easy for
you and your guests. A good rule of thumb is
keep your ceremony and reception site within
20 minutes of each other.
There are seasons for wedding shows, so
check back often to the Wedding Show page as
I update them as soon as I find out about
them. If you're a producer of a show,
this is the best place to list the details.
It's the most complete and up to date
listing for wedding shows here in the
Vancouver, Fraser Valley, Lower Mainland
area. If you're a bride planning your
wedding, I highly recommend going to as many
shows as you can. It's a great way to
meet the local vendors in person and get a
feel for how they would be to work with.
Remember, there are no 'do-overs' with
weddings (we hope), so choose vendors
carefully.
As long as vendors provide positive value
and service the listing here stays. If I
receive negative feedback I may remove the
listing depending on the complaints and the
vendor's ability to resolve them. This
actually is a benefit for for vendors
because it builds the credibility of the
listing. I value my reputation as the ‘do
it yourself’ wedding expert and instructor
of Wedding Essentials Workshops and Event
Planning. Although I don’t guarantee any
vendor’s services, they do reflect back on
me if I recommend them.
Therefore, I like to qualify applicants and
learn a little bit about them so I can
properly promote them, not just on my
website, but in my workshops too. So if you
are requesting a listing, please tell me a
little more about you and provide the
following as you’d like it listed (in this
order):
-
Company Name
-
Phone #
-
Contact Name
-
Address (City name required at a minimum
even though you may be mobile)
-
Email address
-
Web address
-
Two-three sentence description of how
you benefit couples for their weddings
and the capacities you can handle. Try
to stress what makes you unique.
The website currently gets 3000-5000 unique
visitors a month and has been around for
over 7 years, and provides great local
exposure. These are organically grown
through personal interaction at wedding
shows and testimonials. People come to
this site because it's useful, not from any
fancy optimization.
There are some exciting changes
coming and more opportunities to promote
your business. So please be sure to
‘refresh’ your screen each time you come
back. If you know any other wedding vendors
you think should be on DIY Wedding Resource,
please pass on their information by
email. Thank you!
About the Creator:
Hi there! My
name is Magna Goerke, the ‘do it yourself
wedding expert.’ I have created an
affordable and unique option for brides to
plan their own weddings through my Wedding
Essentials program.
After doing some research I found
most people plan their own weddings. It’s
not always a financial reason that they
choose to do so. It’s the one day if
finally is all about them, so they want to
plan it and put their personal mark on it.
I love that weddings today are less about
what has been traditional and more about
making it...
...unique, meaningful and memorable.
My experience with weddings began 25 years
ago as cheap child labour because my mother catered
events. I did anything to get out of the
kitchen and became involved in decorating halls,
arranging
bridal bouquets, and designing invitations. In the most
recent 10 years I've been coordinating
weddings, filling in where needed.
I believe in only doing for people what they
can't do for themselves. Through
the years I've been involved with 100's of weddings from
small to large, casual to formal, budget to
elaborate, local to destination.
Over 20 years experience in Marketing and Sales
for small to very large corporations, has afforded
me rich experience in organizing events of
every size and formality. Part of my education was earned
in Marketing Management at BCIT and many
other sources. I love to learn as well
as teach. I'm currently the instructor
for Event Planning at
CDI College in Abbotsford.
This concept of
empowering brides to plan their own weddings
is a new one. I'm enjoying the process
of getting
the word out there that it’s an option for
busy brides that want more creative
resources. I love to meet people and help
them. I have a passion for teaching and I’m
very happy that I can give Fraser Valley
brides a lot of knowledge and a lot less
stress so they can have their little girl
dream wedding without breaking the bank.
